Snow day laziness

Picture
Well, we're on Snow Day #6 tomorrow.  A bajillion inches of snow (15-18 inches first week of January and about 14 inches in the last few days) and crazy low wind chills (-20 Fahrenheit or colder) have kept me at home.  Of course, I'm loving it!

Here's a peek at the patio door, with drifts up to the handle.  Keep in mind, there are two steps down from the house to the patio, which is at ground level.  So, there's about 2 feet or so of snow below the bottom of the door.  Craziness!

Of course, the kitties love me being at home instead of at school.  They're running, jumping, playing...who am I kidding, they're sleeping through this insane cold!  Oscar copes by covering his nose with his paws, regardless of where he chooses to sleep.  Frankie, in his fluffiness, is less phased.  However, note his cute "thumbs" in the pic below.  (He's a Maine Coon mix, so he's polydactyl.)

Who knows if we'll end up going back to school Wednesday...the verdict is still out.  The Severe Wind Chill Warning is until 7AM Wednesday, so it all depends on the roads and if it really does get that cold.

What do you do to stay warm on these chilly days?

Something New

Picture
Hello!

This past year has included a lot of firsts for me.  One major first is that I decided to open my own business selling my handmade jewelry.  This led to many of the other firsts...my first time selling in a craft show, my first business checking account, even my first time filing taxes as a sole proprietor instead of just me (ugh! that was fun!).

Now, I"m branching into a new first--blogging.  You'd think I would have jumped into blogging quite a while ago.  I mean, I am an English teacher, aren't we supposed to to writer-type things?  Doesn't blogging fall into that?  Well, not so far.

However, as I've become more entrenched in the world of DIY and Handmade Goods, I've become to love the idea of handmade.  I am enchanted with the idea that an object was carefully crafted, by someone else's hands, just for me.  Someone's inspiration moved them to creation.  Then this item, whether it is a purse, a piece of art, or a toy for my cat, has enriched my life.

So, this blog is going to focus on the handmade.  My own work will appear from time to time; however, I hope to highlight a variety of artisans whose work enrich our lives.  Thank you so much for joining me on this journey!
